Instrument description:

The Agilent 5977B GC/MSD is a single quadrupole, building on a long track record of innovation, the High Efficiency Source (HES) and Inert Plus Extractor EI source maximize the number of ions that are created and transferred out of the source body and into the quadrupole analyzer. This makes it ideal for the analysis of the hundreds of relatively low molecular weight compounds found in environmental materials. In order for a compound to be analyzed by GC-MS it must be sufficiently volatile and thermally stable. In addition, functionalized compounds may require chemical modification (derivatization), prior to analysis, to eliminate undesirable adsorption effects that would otherwise affect the quality of the data obtained.

Typical applications:

Analysis of small volatile organic compounds
